Cons
HAs anyone had a problem installing this software in Vista or is it possible? I cannot seem to get it loaded from the actaul driver or from any downloads with patches? Any help or insight would be appreciated.
Pros
It gives you the ability to save profiles for games. Some built in but all for older games.
but isn't that what this is for anyway, older games??
A neighbour gave me this joystick today and I am kind of into the novelty of it. stand aside game pad, let me try this!!! going to install Flight simulator now and test it out fully!!!!
Cons
Nothing really. If anyone has problems getting their sidewinder recognised in XP then it is really simple:
DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE FIRST!'
Just plug in the Joystick, reboot the PC, then go into sound and game controllers in control panel. there you will see you can ADD or REMOVE. Well, click ADD and scroll down until you find Microsoft sidewinder (Auto-detect)./ click that one and then OK it.
Next thing you will see the bubble near the clock telling you 'NEW HARDWARE FOUND. then it will say Installing drivers' then when it's finished with all that, you have a working joystick. now reboot just to be sure, THEN INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE!
now everything works!

Hi, this worked for me, BUT!!! its important to note that it did not work until i had removed any previously installed gameport drivers, for example in my case PPjoy which is handy for remapping and using input devices for things they were not intented for, but when i pluggd my sidewinder in it installed a PPjoy driver which does nothing for the sidewinder ;) also, update your direct x before you go looking for some microsoft driver, direct x does more than graphics, it hold essential microsoft drivers for game ports ;)

'Sounds like a good solution but need more details of 'how to do it'.'
Pros
Sounds like a good solution but need more details of 'how to do it' which an absolute novice would find easy to understand. Does it apply to XP Home?
I need it for FS 2002.
My Sidewinder Pro is USB version, part number X03-57540 and PID 85791-579-4387364-00000 and I find it produces a sensitivity too much for the joystick.
Look forward to response please Landbobby! Thanks.
Pros
I had an old ms sidewinder joystick from 2000. I up graded to win xp but it would not work on xp. I downloaded the 3.2 version of the driver, still would not work. So I put my flight simulator in and started it at the top of the screen I went to options scrolled down to controls just to find that the controler had been disabled, when I enabled it the old joy stick worked just like new......I hope this helps someone.........thanks

'Not for newer systems - Vintage enthusiasts only'
Pros
Download worked fine - but would not install on VISTA
Cons
I found an old Sidewinder (without the driver disk) at the thrift store and attempted to install it on a P-4 machine using an old-fashioned (pre-USB) 'game port'.
I am running Windows VISTA-Beta2 pre-release and thought it would be fun to try... But I got the message: 'This program has known compatibility issues - The system cannot find the file specified'. --
It is no one's fault - it's just older technology that served it's purpose and brought us to where we are. --
If you are running new hardware and software, just buy it new.. (joysticks are cheap enough) and leave the older stuff to the collectors and vintage gaming enthusiasts.

Just got a Sidewinder Force feedback wheel second hand. It`s game port version. It`s officially supposed to work with Win 2000, but trust me it doesn`t. Force feedback doesn`t work, u can`t test it, adjust it, nothing at all. Well you could, if you were able to install this stupid piece of software. But of course you can`t. There is a 4.0 version for Win 2000, but ONLY FOR USB connection!!! All I can say is: WHY??? Rip-off by Microsoft.

'doesn't work on XP home edition'
'doesn't work on XP home edition'
Pros
none.
Cons
It doesn't work on XP Home edition. This is the exact same file that is on Microsoft's site. When trying to run it says 'Sidewinder Game Device Software 3.x installs drivers that are incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, contact Microsoft.' Also, XP included drivers work fine - I need the software that lets you program the buttons to games that don't support the joystick. I suspect that is what this is but it is for Win 9x.

I tried to install a M/S Sidewinder Joy Stick on to s DELL XPS400 PC. I got the usual 'drivers not compatible message'. However, I also noticed that the 15 pin coonector on the Joy Stick is not compatible with the sound card port. Can an adapter be used (along with the download provided on this web site) to convert the 15 pin connectoer to a USB connector or the sound card connector?
Thanks,
George
