1 Overview 1.1 System overview
This document describes the operation, the functional way and the installation as well as the technical data of the software tool alphaSET version 3. This tool was refined on the basis from alphaSET version 2 and is compatible to former versions. Therefore the following products can be served with this tool:

3 Introduction / brief description
The following section should help to clear basic questions to the alphaSET tool:
What is the alphaSET tool ? What are the system requirements for the use of this software ? How do I install this software ? What must I do if I would like to update this software ? How do I start the software ? What will I see, if I start the software ? How do I find out, which user profile may execute which action? How do I find out, which software version I use ? How do I set a password for the communication with the meter?
Additional information: For additional information please refer to the product descriptions of the alpha meters (2 Referenced documents).
3.1 What is the alphaSET tool ?
The alphaSET tool is a Windows based software to read the data of the alpha meters AEM 500 / ARM 500 / AEM 550 / A220 / AS220 / AS253 / AS1253 / A1350 / A1440 / A1500 and A2500 (register, load profile, log book, etc.). Different parameters like setting and parametrization parameters can be changed according to user's profile. Setting parameter is those attitudes, which can be changed without breaking the certification seal. To get an access to the parameterisation parameters of the meter, a parameterisation-switch must be pressed which is via the calibration mark.
The program is a 32 bit application, being based on a 32 bit environment that runs via Windows NT 4. X, as well as via Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Vista
3.2 System requirements
Subsequet are the requirements for the use of the alphaSET software listed:
IBM PC or compatible PC with 800 MHz Pentium or higher with the following equipment: - 16 MB RAM - CD ROM disk drive - at least one free, serial interface (COM1 to COM16) - 50 MByte free hard disk memory
Hardware components for communication - IEC 61107-compatible optical probe for the optical interface - CL0 Converter and RS232 cable for the electric interface (CL0-Interface) - RS232 cable for the RS232 interface (optional)
Windows 2000 / NT / XP / Vista Monitor with a resolution of at least 1024 x 768 pixel

3.3 Installation / Update of alphaSET
You require administrator rights on your PC for the installation of this software-tool. Further it is urgently recommended that you close all windows programs, before starting the setup. Insert the CD-Rom with the product information and tools from ELSTER to your CD-ROM-drive. Automatically the following menu is displayed. Please select your language and then press the button alpha meter.

Select in the section AlphaSET the button Installation.

Within the next menu you have to choose the language of your setup.

Select your destination path of alphaSET and press the button Next.

If you update the program, no deinstallation of the old version is necessary. You can simply install the new version in the same directory.

You should only secure your phone book, if you have one, created from alphaSET-version below 3.13. Further information in chapter 13.2
SETUP checks now whether sufficient memory is available.
Subsequently a communication window appears in which the installation progress is indicated.

After completion a window appears with the information that SETUP generates program symbols. Then the program will ask you to restart your computer.

Normally it is NOT necessary, to restart the PC. After successful installation a message from SETUP appears.

Note: To secure all functions of the program alphaSET needs at least one installed Windows system printer, even if no printer is connected.
According to your windows version, you have now a program group, or a start symbol of alphaSET

3.4 Start of the software and user-profile
To start the alphaSET tool software:
Chose in the Windows Start Menu > Programs > alphaSET > alphaSET Or click on the Icon on your desktop
To close the software choose File -> Quit
3.4.1 First start after installation
With the first start after installation of the alphaset sofware the following window will be displayed:

Here please select the language to operate the tool.
With the following menu it is possible to take over all the settings from prior versions of your computer.

3.4.2 User-profile
Normally, alphaSET starts with the menu of the profiles, e.g.:

Each of this profiles has different privileges, that means possibilities of access on the menu system of alphaSET. The user profiles are filed in the path ' IniPfad '. If only one profile is in this path, this is started automatically, without showing the menu illustrated above. If no profile is in this path, the invisible profile 'consumer' starts automatically, which has lowest privileges.
The user profile serves the storage of all individual settings. If several persons work with a computer, each user can save his own settings, in order to fall back on them, if he uses again alphaSET. For information to the storage of an user's profile see chapter 4.1 'Communication'.

3.4.3 Use of the software
After the selection of the user profile the alphaSET opening screen appears.

The program alphaSET is a Windows - based application, which reflects the structure and the construction of Windows programs.

In the submenus are further windows (document windows and dialogue windows) indicated, which show the name of the submenu in the title bar. The menu bar indicates the available menus, in which the individual actions and switching functions are specified as clear text. 3.5 Indication of the software version
To get information about the applied software version, select via Help the menu item 'about alphaSET ... ' or click on the following icon:
This command opens a window with the data about the program alphaSET and its version.

4 User settings
In this chapter the options for the user settings are described. You find these settings via the menu item Extras.
4.1 Communication
Select via Extras the menu item Options, there the register card Communication.

COM-Port With the function 'Com-Port' the interfaces Com 1 to Com 16 of the PC can be selected. By the start of alphaSET the program checks automatically the free COM-Ports of the computer. It is the decision of the PC user himself whether the selected COM-Port is still free for the use by alphaSET while the alphaSET-session.
Initial Baud rate The initial baud rate of the communication between alphaSet and the connected meter can be adjusted by pull-down-menu. For more information to the baud rate shift see DIN EN 62056-21.
Utility password A password for the meter communication can be assigned to the user profile that means an interrogation of the utility password is not executed any more (useful if the same EVU password for different meters is used).
Read with 300 Baud only This option enables the constant reading of the meter with 300 baud. The automatic baud rate shift is disabled.

Suppression of optical reflexion With this option a lack of the suppression of optical reflexion of the probe according to hard-ware can be compensated by software.
Attention: The probes from P+E delivered by ELSTER do not need this option, because the suppression of optical reflexion is already realized in the hardware.
Create communication log file By selection of this option a communication protocol is created automatically, which is also written directly in a text file.
Waiting time between baud rate switch [ms] In this box the waiting time con be assigned in milliseconds between the baud rate switching.
Data format With this choice the physical transmission of the data between the meter and alphaSET can be defined. Default is 7,E,1. The format 8, N, 1 is only required for special meters.
Note: If the data of the counter are read by the AMR system modem, only the settings of this modem is relevant and not the settings of the meter.
OK The actual settings are taken over by clicking on this button. They are automatically written in the user-profile and are available on the next start of alphaSET.
Copy profile With the help of this button different settings can be saved in a new user-profile or releases can be transmitted out of other user profiles.
Cancel Clicking on this button ignores all changes and you get back to the main program.

4.2 Files
Select via Extras the menu item Options, there the register card Files.
In this menu the paths on the drives can be defined in which the different files should be stored. A click to the button enables the changing of the entries. In the pull down menu Proposal for file name(s) are several suggestions done for an automatic generation of the file name.

4.3 Read register / log files
Select via Extras the menu item Options, there the register card Register/Load Profile.

Read register In this window the user can select whether the register data should be shown with or without clear text (designations according to identification number system OBIS).
The reading of the serial number can be deactivated here, too.
Note: In addition to the deactivation of the reading of the serial number it must be guaranteed that not meter serial number is selected as Proposal for file name(s) (see 4.2 Files).
Release readout of eHz If the new eHz (electronic residential 3-phase meter) should be readout this checkbox has to be selected.
Load profile
Dont read load profile / log book header: If the user reads load profile or log book, the header is always read first by default, to find out start, end and channel number of the profile. In the case of a reading without header, the selected period is questioned directly without reviewing previously, which one is available. In this process, all available load profiles in the meter are read.
Read load-profile/event-log file without password: With this option it can be defined whether the load profile reading takes place with or without password interrogation.

4.4 General Settings
Select via Extras the menu item Options, there the register card General.

Edit passwords hidden: With activation the input of the password is not indicated any more in the clear text, only with ******** .
Reset programming mode after parameterisation: After the change of parameters in a meter, the alphaSET puts the parameter mode of the counter automatically back. For more information about the parameter mode see chapter 7 Change of meter configuration.
Check daylight saving set to EU standard: During the download of the tariff table to the meter an automatic check of the correct used EU daylight saving time will be executed and an error message is displayed if there's inconsistency.

4.5 User language
Select via Extras the menu item Options, there the register card Language.

Note: In order to activate all language changes, you should quit alphaSET and restart it after a language change.

4.6 IEC 1107-Address
Select via Extras the menu item IEC1107 address .

An IEC1107-address can be registered here, which is send at every communication to the meter. The meter answers in this case only if the IEC1107-Address sent by alphaSET agrees with its configured address. The meter IEC address is used if more than one meter is connected to a modem by using the CL0 or RS485 interface.

4.7 Change utility password

The communication-password (from alphaSET to the meter) can be preset in this menu. That has no effect to the utility password in the meter. 8 numeric chars are expected.

The administrator of alphaSET can set different Passwords in order to protect the different versions of alphaSET. With this function all alphaSET users can have their own version on alphaSET with different permissions.

You should first check the communication. The command read register is the simplest way to do it. If this doesnt work, please check the settings of alphaSET, see chapter 4 User settings.
5.1 Read register list
Select via Meter the menu item Read register or the following icon:

By using this command the billing data list (register list or Std-dAtA on LCD) of a meter is read out. A window appears in which the reading data are visualized. If you have chosen the option read register with serial number (see chapter 4.3 Read register / log files), the serial number will be indicated in the title bar.
The identification number is indicated in the first column, the measured value in the second column and in the third column is an interpretation of the identification number in clear text to be seen, if the identification number corresponds to the OBIS identification system.

In this case, the name (and path) for the text file is asked after inquiry of the file name for the parameter set. The default pathname is registered in Extras/Options/Files in the field read meter configuration. The content of the indicated window will be stored.

5.4 Read load profile
Select via Meter the menu item Read load profile, or the following icon:

The load profile of the meter can be read with this command. The configuration of the load profile is read and displayed after confirming. Certain settings for the specific reading of the load profile can be taken here:
Selection of the measuring channels (as far as they exist in the meter). Limitation of the reading period. This period can be defined in the from or to input
fields. By deactivating the checkboxes at start and end, the appropriate time stamps are indicated. These stamps can be edited by double clicking on them. Should a certain window be selected repeatedly, this can be stored and again be activated by the button 'stored values'. Frequently used specifications like last month, last week, yesterday or today can be selected directly.
Partial readout (possibly from FW 3.02), that means use of the R6-command. For more information see VDEW-Lastenheft.
Depiction of primary values in accordance of the transformer ratio for Voltage and Current. The transformer ratio is 1:1 if no primary values are activated. Note: The indicated meter data are then secondary data.

After input of the reading period, the load profile of the meter is read by clicking on the button read load profile. If all data is read a new button Show load profile appears. With this command alphaSET shows all load profile data of the meter in a table.
The following data are listed: Date Time Measured values of the channels (up to 8 channels) Status of the saved measuring periods.

With the selection show load profile you get the data of the meter in a table and additionally a button to show this information graphically.
With this button you start the LP Analyzer tool and you get directly the following picture.

It is possible to show maximum of 8 channels. With the checkbox your are able to activate / deactivate the channels in the graph. If you double click on the field of the colour, you are able to choose different colours and types of designs.

Switch programs: The file is saved by standard with the ending .uhr. Comment: You can only save, if you have previously read the corresponding data. (Screen display).

6.3 Configuration of a meter by using a configuration file
Select via File the menu item File with parameter -> meter .

6.3.1 Switch point clock With this menu, the settings of the switch point clock can be loaded out of a switch program-file (ending: .uhr) and will be sent into the meter. The Utility password is required before the start of the communication.
Note: The internal structure of the Switch point clock remained in the A1500 or A1350 same as in the AEM500 meter. If the file, that is to be loaded to the meter, contains only one switch point clock, the obligatory check of the firmware version is cancelled. Therewith can even old switch point clock programs be loaded without problem to the new meter. It is to be respected generally on that, which the day types, the energy tariffs and the maximum tariffs of the meter also agree with the switch point clock program.
6.3.2 Settings (without PW + ID) With this menu all setting parameters (parameters which can be changed without breaking the certification seal), except password and identification, can be loaded of a parameter file (ending: .par) and be sent to the meter. After input of the file name, a window, in which date

6.3.3 Settings and parameterisations (without PW + ID) Icon in the icon bar:
With this menu, all setting and parameter-parameters (except password and identification) can be loaded of a parameter file (ending: .par) and be sent to the meter. After input of the file name, a window, in which date and time are indicated, appears. After confirming with OK, the utility password is queried before the data are loaded into the meter.
Comment: The parametrization-button must be pressed previously before the programming of the meter starts. 6.3.3.1 Parameter-file WITHOUT calibration-data (without PW + ID) This menu item is a service function and to use only in consultation with ELSTER. Here are all parameters (class 0 to 6) of the meter (except password and identification) are written, only the calibration-data remain unchanged. This process is only possible with a special ELSTER password and requires no renewed calibration of the meter.
6.3.3.2 Parameter-file WITH calibration-data (without PW + ID) This menu item is a service function and to use only in consultation with ELSTER. Here are all parameters of the meter (except password and identification) written, also the calibration-data are changed. This process is only possible with a special ELSTER password and requires a new calibration of the meter.

6.4 Modify parameters
With the menu item Modify parameters of a meter or a file can be changed, saved, and loaded again into the meter. This menu item is first visible, if the configuration of the meter was read before (see chapter Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden. Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden.), or a file was loaded directly (see chapter 6.1 Open a parameter file). The menu items in the upper section are setting parameters. The menu items in the lower section are parameterisation parameter and requiring an activation of the parameterisation button.
After an alteration, you have to confirm the respective menu item with OK in order to send these new parameters to the meter. The following query appears:

With a Yes the data are written directly into the meter. With a No this process is not executed, but that data are taken over into the database of alphaSET.
This is the general flow in the change of parameters. The exact description to the single parameters themselves follows in the following chapters.

7.3 Switch point clock
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock. The settings of the switch point clock in the meter can be indicated and changed here.
7.3.1 Day type

The weekdays can be summarized to corresponding groups in the field day type. The selection of the types takes place via the activation of the corresponding boxes. The fields with the designations day type 1/2/3/4 can be edited.
An eight-place switch-program-number is assigned to each switch-program in the corresponding field, which can be modified. All chars, which can be displayed in the 7-segment-display of the meter ( 0..9,A,C,E,F,H,J,L,P,S,V,Y), are valid. In the field comment exists the possibility to enter free text. Though, this is not written in the meter, but only in the saved file.
With the command save as file the switch-program can be saved. The command read from file loads an existing switch-program (file with the ending .uhr). The command print prints the complete switch-program including day-type- and season-definitions.

7.3.2 Season change
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock -> Season change.

In the field seasons the number of the seasons can be defined as well as their start date (the field of the seasons name can be edited). 1, 2 or 4 seasons can be arranged and distributed as desired over a total calendar year. They can even occur repeatedly in the total calendar year.
Procedure: To register a season in the calendar, the field season 1 must be clicked (above green). Subsequently a black arrow marks the activation. Now clicking on the corresponding days must mark only the beginning and ending day of the season. With this menu structure, arises a higher flexibility, which permits for example to bind switch-programs of the season 1 within the season 3 of the 9.-16. July.

7.3.3 Tariff switch table
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock -> Tariff switch table.

In this submenu are the actual settings of the different switching times taken. In the indicated table stands T for energy tariff, M1 until M4 for the different demand tariffs, R1 and R2 for the two output relays (as far as these functions are parameterised like this). The different energy and demand tariffs can now be assigned individually to the switching times and their validity (defines over the season and the day type).
The following buttons are available: Release locks: The check of alphaSET, whether T1-T4, M1-M4 and relay 1/2 are valid is
unmade. Recommendation: Let this checkbox always deactivated. Accept: The changes concerning the selected switching time are transferred into the table. New: A new switching time is transferred into the table. The time of an available entry must
be blocked first to be able to carry out this function. Delete: A designed entry is removed from the table.
Comment: To each season and to each day type, a time entry is generated automatically at 00:00 clock. The user has to indicate the corresponding energy and/or demand tariff.

7.3.4 Holiday-list
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock and there the register card Holiday-list.

All defined holidays are displayed in the table. With the pull-down-menu holiday list the selection of already recalculated holidays can be activated. The number of years, which should be calculated for each holiday, is indicated in the field 'years'. According to the number of the switching times and holidays, ca. 15 years can be saved in advance. With the check box cyclic one receives the possibility to define recurring holidays (e.g. 01.01. -> new year). If this option is not selected, one receives the possibility to indicate day, month and year of a fixed holiday (e.g. Easter Sunday).
The following buttons are available:
Accept: The changes concerning the selected holiday are transferred into the table. New: A new holiday is transferred into the table. Delete: A designed entry is removed from the table.

7.3.5 Daylight saving time
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock -> Daylight saving time.

In this menu can the summer/winter time-switch either be deactivated, aligned at the EU standard or, in the setting 'user defined', be defined in the indicated tables.

7.4 Switch point clock (Update)
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock (Update).
A second switch point clock can be defined in the meter (with FW 5.10 of A1350, FW 7.00 of A220 and the FW of AS220/AS253/AS1253/A1440.). At a predefined date the second tariff table will be activated and valid for the rest of the time. All data have to be defined in the same way as the first switch timetable.
7.4.1 Day type
Select via Modify the menu item Switch point clock (Update) -> day type.

7.5 Times
Select via Modify the menu item Times. Different possibilities to change the time base or communication timeout are offered:
7.5.1 Source of Times

In this menu the user can define whether the network frequency or the quartz frequency is supposed to be used for the time of the internal real time clock of the meter.
Notes: In general, the setting quartz is to be recommended because the quartz inserted are
highly exact and temperature stable (< 5 ppm). Especially in use of a DCF-synchronization of the measuring period is it recommended to
select the setting quartz. This is because the network frequency can vary and it can lead therefore to undesirable time set (in synchronization) with corresponding entries in the load profile.
It is recommended to use line for meters that are not synchronized, because the temporal deviations are countervailed with the time. Therewith, the time doesnt run away.
Whether these parameters are set parameters or parameterisation parameters depends on the firmware version of the meter which works at the moment with the alphaSET: Until including FW version 3.05 these are parameterisation parameters, from FW version 4.00 these are set parameters.

7.5.2 Display Timeouts

In this menu the user can define the display scroll time and the timeout for the alternate mode. After the alternate time out exceeds the limit, the meter goes back automatically in the scroll mode.

Notes: According the IEC1107 standard the maximum communication timeout between 2
characters is 1,5s. For GPRS application the maximum timeout between 2 characters has to be increased.
The suggestion is to use in that case a timeout of 6s.

Select via Modify the menu item demand reset.

In this menu, the possible sources for the triggering of a maximum demand reset can be released or blocked. Settings, which are not selectable, have a grey background. The day within a month, at which the maxima demand reset should take place, can be defined with the button every month on the... at 0.00 PM. Moreover the duration of the reset lock time can be adjusted. The reset lock time is only active by activation over the same reset lock source.

Since firmware version 8.00 it is possible, to insert a disconnect relay. On the tab you can set the measuring value, that is responsible for the disconnection or . If a value is selected, the threshold value, that causes the disconnection, can be set. 7.7.2 Demand overload

The user has the possibility to configure one or two outputs of the meter, so that by exceeding of a specific demand threshold an output contact is opened and/or closed (NOT the diosconnect relay!). The overload threshold 1 refers always to the measuring channel 1 of the meter. The overload 2 can be set on every defined measuring channel of the meter. At the start of a demand period, the output contact is either opened or closed (if it is parameterised). By exceeding the threshold the output contact is closed (opened).
Starting with the FW version 4.40 it is additionally possible to enter a threshold value for the tan(phi).
Note: The format of the overload threshold is the same as for the demand values. Up to FW version 4.00 only one overload threshold can be parameterised, since then two. Only since firmware 4.20 is it possible to configure overload threshold 2 freely.

In this tab (available for the firmware-versions 5.31 and 9.xx) a threshold value for the tan(phi) Q1 or Q4 can be set. If exceeded, a warning can be set onto an output.

In this menu the start baud rate or either the maximum baud rate of the meter can be selected, separated between optical or electrical interface. Further baud rates can be selected by a click on the pull-down-arrows. With the FW version 4.40 of the A1500 a second electrical interface is available. For this case it is possible to set the priorities of this interfaces (only available, if the type key at position 24 is set to T, u or X). It is also possible to choose if the meter can only be addressed with its IEC-address.
Note: If the start baud rate of an interface in the meter is changed, the baud rate for the communication must be changed after writing into the meter, too. (See chapter 4.1 Communication).

Here the DLMS parameters can be modified. The DLMS address is fixed for the Certification profile. The DLMS baud rate can be selected from the list. The Quantity of address bytes, the Inter oktett time out, the Inactivity time out and the Time window for IEC1107 communication can be modified with the arrows at the right.
The changes can be saved or discarded before closing the menu.
To restore factory values click the button Reset parameters to factory settings:

7.10 Synchronization

In this menu the mode of the demand period synchronisation as well as the synchronisation of the meter clock can be defined by using an integrated ripple receiver, an internal DCF77-clock or an external control input.
The image offers the following adjustment possibilities:
None To next interval: recommended if a control input (MPE Kl. 16) to the measuring period
synchronization is used by an external synchronization pulse. To next minute: recommended with reservation if an externally produced DCF pulse is
used by an external control input for the synchronization of the measuring period. With interval to reference-time: recommended in synchronization over ripple receiver. In
selecting the point With interval to reference-time appears a menu, in which the reference time and the time window of the synchronization can be adjusted.

Set date/time by DCF 77-antenna input: recommended by using the pulse input 1 as a DCF77 antenna input. (A DCF77antenna must be connected to the pulse input 1). By activation of this feature the internal meter clock will by synchronized every 5 minutes after a full hour, after power up or by activation of the meter test mode.
Note: After activation of the DCF 77 antenna input the meter will generate a warning FF2 1000000 until a correct time/date information is decoded. A DCF77 decoding can be activated by a formatted command too.
By clicking on the button OK appears the security query Do you want to transfer the modified data to the meter?. 'Yes' writes the changes into the meter, 'no' breaks off the menu. Cancel' causes the leaving of the window.
Note: DCF 77 decoding is available from meter with firmware version 4.00.

The FW 5.10 and FW 4.40 offer additional features to observe the network regarding power quality issues. Therefore up to 18 different counters with up to 18 thresholds can be activated to detect the occurrence, if a power quality value is above or below a predefined threshold during a user programmable period (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10,12, 15,20, 30, 60 minutes).
Furthermore 2 log file events and 2 relay contacts can be activated if 1 or more events will be above or below the predefined threshold.
Additionally with the logic OR / AND operation you are able to combine the different information of the thresholds.

7.14 Copper-/Iron-losses
In this menu the definitions for the transformer and line loss calculation can be configured. This feature is only supported with the FW 4.30 of the A1500 and A2500.

To display the transformer and line loss register on the LCD or optical/electrical interface the value has to be assigned to the display list.

The user has, by standard, 1 pulse input at disposal (with disuse of the DCF-input). 3 further pulse inputs can be used if an optional conductor board is used in the meter. The inputs accord to the SO-standard. An own pulse constant can be assigned to the pulses of the pulse inputs. The summation of the input pulses is stored in a separate register and is included in the standard reading list of the meter.
The following functions are available: Measuring period synchronization input, which must be controlled by a relay (Attention!
No connection to 230V possible). Check of opening terminal cover (optional): A removing of the terminal cover can be
detected with this input. A reed relay is positioned at the terminal cover, which bypasses the input. If the cover is removed, an entry in the log file occurs and the corresponding meter is incremented. A warning appears in the display, which can only be removed by using the interface.

In the first register card the measuring quantities can be assigned to the load profile channels.
A plausibility check of the parameters takes place before the image appears: Are all necessary parameters for the parametrization loaded into the alphaSET? Is the load profile generally released? Is the load profile released in the type key? Is a VDEW-load profile parametrized?
The form is not indicated and an error message appears instead, if one of these tests leads to a negative result.

The final layout of the window depends on the configuration of the meter: How many and which measuring channels has the meter? Perhaps not all
channels shown above (=lines) are visible! Which Quantity is measured by the meter? Perhaps not all quantities shown
above (columns) are visible How much place is yet available in the display table? Possibly is the number of
the channels reduced for this reason. In the upper part of the form the assignment of the channels with the measuring quantity can be done. The OBIS identifier belonging to the measuring channel are adapted automatically (and automatically registered into the display table). The OBIS identifiers ending can be chosen between 5 or 25 in average demand, or between 9 or 29 in energy per measuring period.
Note: If the load profile should store energy register values the number of days of load profile is going down, because these values need more memory space.
Memory Size of Load Profile: The Load profile Size for the billing data can be set here. According to VDEW Specifications at least 40 days are necessary. The remaining memory is available for the power quality monitoring. For more information see chapter 7.13.2

8.1 Set meter date/time using the W2 command

In this menu date and time of the meter can be changed. The date is divided into day, month and year, the time into hour, minute and second. Furthermore is it possible to send the current time of the PC to the meter.
Use manually edited time The stored PC time is sent to the meter.
Use actual PC time The current PC time is sent to the meter. The clock keeps running invisible if changes in the time window are done.
The button Set accepts the adjusted data and the button 'Cancel' ignores the last command and leads back to the main menu.
Note: The Offset of the data transmission time of about 4 seconds is considered automatically. This process is realized with the W2-command.

In this menu, the duration of LCR-mode is specified in minutes. The values of 1 to 255 minutes are allowed whereby the selection of 255 minutes means, that the optical interface is uninterrupted connected with the integrated ripple receiver (e.g. status recording with LCRSET or SCAN).
The LCR-mode serves for the communication of the internal ripple receiver over the optical interface. The meter is switched in the LCR-mode for the selected time by activation of the button OK, that means, that over the optical interface can directly be communicated with the LCR. The communication with the LCR module of the meter can now take place by the parametrization software of the receiver (CFIG, LCRset). The LCR mode can be left by long pressing of the function key (> 5 s) before the end of the selected duration. The menu is left with Cancel.
Remark: LCR = load control receiver or ripple receiver.

10.2 Power-Quality
Select via Test the menu item power quality.
10.2.1 Main display

In this menu the service list or the register data list which includes the instantaneous values of mains quantities like current, voltage, etc. can be readout manually or automatically in a predefined time interval. It is to be regarded that the register- or service list must contain the corresponding data. The missing values are marked with ? in the preceding example. One has the possibility to read the data per button or per an automatic reading with specification of the read cycles in seconds.
For commissioning documentation purposes the fields Meter Serial No. and Utiliy ID #1..(if delivered in the service list or register data) and PC time are filled automatically. Additionally the fields Customer, Technician and Comment can be filled in manually. These informations were stored automatically in the text file, if button Save is selected.
Depending on the settings in tab options, an arrow appears in the background of the graphics. It will be green and clockwise, if the rotating field is correct, or red and counter clockwise, if the rotating field is wrong.

The OBIS-identifiers can be adjusted via Options. If the OBIS identifiers, used with the service list or register data, are not the standards, the numbers must be corrected.
Additionally the nominal voltage and current can be changed, in order to standardize the diagram correlatively: if the arrows in the main tab are out of sight or too small, these values shall be set (and saved automatically in the user INI file). If a parameter set is read before,, always THIS values are used at first entry of the menu item Power Quality.

10.3 Test mode
Select via Test the menu item Test mode or the following icon:

With the test mode, the meter can be transferred occasionally into certain conditions in order to accelerate calibration sequences. Herewith, tariff sources can be changed or tariffs can be given directly. The pulse constants can furthermore be set to the maximal possible value, and the LED of the meter can be assigned to a measuring size. Parameterised delays are cancelled in this mode. The original settings are reconstructed after leaving the test mode.
Note: The test mode is first active, if the settings were written into the meter. The command reset test mode must be sent before leaving the test mode. Alternatively to this the field test mode can be deactivated in the Test mode checkbox.

To edit the modem menu, select via Extras the menu item Options, there in the register card Communication activate the option Phone book active. Then press OK.

11.1.1 Phone book part 1
Here the user can set parameters on all modem functions of alphaSET. These are necessary for the communication over a meter modem.

The first communications interface is the optical probe. By default is always set in the first position.

To add a new modem, click in first left cell of an existing modem and the options for adding new rows appear. A new row below or over can be created. An existing one can be copied in a An existing Phone Book can be opened.

The current Phone Book can be exported into a file. The changes can be saved or discarded before closing this menu. The active communications interface is the one marked with the red arrow at the left.
All of the following commands can be edited by double clicking in each of them. Modem The cross shows that the device is a Modem.
Phone-No To configure the customers meter phone number. Here can the phone number be registered. If a telephone book is created, this entry automatically takes place after choice of the appropriate telephone book entry.
Meter modem. To chose from a list the modem type.
Modem PW To establish the modems password if any.
IEC1107-Adr The communication address
Util-PW To establish the utility password of the meter if any

Baud rate for the IEC1107 communication. Is mandatory for local communication, in modem mode this setting has to be done in meter modem.
Reflx Enable/disable suppression of reflexions.
Form Data format of the meter modem (normally 7 bits, Even, 1 stop bit).
Hold Establish the time in seconds in which the connection should be maintained after the last communication from alphaSET between PC and connected modem. At the end of this timeout the connection is interrupted and the modem hangs up.
Wake The characters that are required to send directly before the login to the meter.
Line If necessary, take here the settings to get a local loop (e.g. 0).
PC modem type Drop down menu in which the type of meter modem is selected.
Locl-Bd In this drop down menu the baud rate between PC and (control point) modem can be adjusted. If its possible, select the highest one, which is supported by both.
8,N,1 Enable/disable 8 bits, no parity and 1 stop bit (8,N,1) as data format for local modem when necessary.

11.3 Dial-up doesnt work! What to do?
In order to receive a functioning communication to the meter via modem, the following points to the dial-up should be checked:
Is the COM-Port for the connected modem correct?
Is the phone number, which is activated in the phone book, correct?
Is the entered IEC-address of the meter correct?
Is the initialization string of the modem, which is connected to the computer, correct?
First test read register.
Is the start baud rate in meter and modem the same?
Does the called modem answer?
Does the meter send data (see communication) ?
Is the used utility-password correct ?
Is the entered data format correct (7,E,1 ; 8,N,1) ?

12.1 Construction of a restricted menu system
Restricted Menu is used to generate a reduced version of alphaSET
Select via Extras the menu item Restrict menu system
Then select the path where the installation program is stored. Normally this program is in the installation CD.

your new alphaSET version or not. At the bottom of the edit window is a box with the count of the active menus in the profile.
It is possible to enable password protection for the new profile. Enable the check box and click in the Enter password button to give the password.

Once the new configuration is ready, the name of the user profile must be changed otherwise the base profile chosen at the beginning in the active path will be overwritten.

Click OK to create the new profile. Cancel to discard the changes. With OK you get information of the path where the new version is stored. To generate an Installation CD this path should be completely copied in the CD.
